What is the Classic Car Show at the NEC?

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, is the event not to be missed for any classic car owner, collector, enthusiast, car club member or anyone with a general interest in classic cars. 

The show brings together the world’s largest gathering of 300 car and motorcycle clubs with over 3,000 iconic classic and vintage cars and motorbikes on display across seven halls at Birmingham’s NEC. As well as admiring these amazing vehicles, as visitors you have the opportunity to drive or buy your very own classic car, source parts and tools for your maintenance and restoration needs from the UK’s largest indoor Autojumble and specialist traders, or just enjoy the spectacle of the live auctions, talks from motoring celebrities and insiders, or gain insight from hundreds of classic car members. 

The show also plays host to the Classic Motorbike Showcase which welcomes classic bike enthusiasts from all over the UK and beyond to share their passion for outstanding two-wheeled classics.

The Mercedes Benz Club is the official UK Mercedes Club.

The Mercedes Benz Club was founded in 1952. As such it was the first Mercedes-Benz Club in the world. Its founding was mainly due to the enthusiasm and efforts of one man – Ronald H Johnson (1913 – 1973). By profession Johnson was a marine architect, but he was also an avid motorist and a long-time enthusiast of Mercedes-Benz cars.

The club has always attracted distinguished men and women as members including Vice-Consul of the US Embassy in London, Sir Peter Ustinov CBE, FRSA, King Fiasal II of Iraq and Prince Abhas Bhanubandh, from Thailand’s royal family.

The Club is nearly 70 years old and has developed an unrivalled level of regional activities and events. This is a reflection on the Mercedes-Benz Club’s efforts of its huge network of inspired and committed local volunteers.

In addition the Club organises a number national events, such as concours, individual model gatherings, European rallies and – of course – its major annual presence at the NEC’s Classic Car Show. Also, every year, coach loads of Club members visit Europe’s largest classic car show, the Techno-Classica, in Essen.

Technical Information fo Hamilton Classic Moltex Outdoor Car Covers

Moltex is formed with an outer protection layer, a second fibre layer, a perforated polyurethane layer, a third & fourth fibre layers and finished with the unique soft fleece inner layer. The rain is unable to penetrate as the material fibres criss-cross over the perforations allowing the car to breathe without allowing the surface tension of the water to be broken to get through the cover. This allows the whole cover to breathe, we do not recommend a fully tailored exterior cover as this fits the car too well and restricts the air circulation.

Only in exceptional circumstances could you possibly find any moisture under the cover as the whole atmosphere is very damp. This then evaporates as soon as the temperature increases due to the materials excellent breathing characteristics. This in turn helps prevent corrosion and damage to paint.

The Soft Fleece interior lining provides the ultimate environment for protecting paint from scratches and potential UV damage. Safe to be used all year in most weather conditions*.

As with any covering the ability to allow the air to circulate is of prime importance. All covers with a waxy or plastic finish should be avoided as they are unable to breathe and will generate condensation. Some covers have a vent at the top of the front and rear screens, this allows air to circulate in this small area but not over the rest of the car so we recommend these be avoided. Moisture evaporating from the ground is the main cause of moisture under a cover, not rain getting in, so a breathable cover is more important than a fully waterproof one.
